Music and Musings of Junegale

Naturally most of my thoughts center around the magic I use and the natural world. For such a short list of topics, though, there is a great deal to think about.

As the bridge between humanity and the natural world, I am quite familiar with the fact that man is an animal. Yet, I am also keenly aware that man is not an animal. Just as water and wind are part of nature yet not the same, so are men and animals united but divided.

Man is an animal, yes, for he shares all the needs the animals do. He must have sustenance and shelter. He must reproduce, and he strives to live as comfortably as possible. He is subject to all the laws of nature. There is nothing that an animal must have or do that man must not also have or do.

Man is not an animal, though, for he has been set apart by God. Very special laws have been made for him, which do not apply to the animals. He has been made something greater, gifted with powers he does not fully appreciate. He can learn that which was not previously known. He can invent things that do not exist. He can even change his environment to suit his needs, rather than having to change himself to suit the environment.

Why, then, does man insist on being an animal? I cannot comprehend such nonsense!! He flaunts his bestial nature in the midst of human greatness. Look: the animals know their Master. They know by instinct that God exists; it is a knowledge born to them. Man has more than instinct to reveal God to him. God has spoken to him directly, has performed miracles on his behalf, and has even become one of them in person. What miracle was performed that the deer might believe in God? What promise of salvation has been given to the dog? None. And man questions God? He uses his creative power to try and recreate the Creator? This, I cannot understand.

Man is subject to the laws of nature, but he has also been made subject to higher laws. These laws are not to put him under added restraints, but are a code of conduct by which he proves himself to be greater than the animals. Recently, there has been much debate upon the subject of homosexuality in humans and animals. The argument runs thus: the Christians believe that homosexuality is a sin, and as an example of this point out that not even the animals do this. It has been recently discovered that homosexual relations are actually fairly common in the animal kingdom. So now people argue that the Christian belief is wrong because their example is false. What utter, ridiculous nonsense!! Of course the animals have homosexual relations! They are animals! Man was given a higher standard than that. The God that created all of nature and set its laws declared that man should not do this as the beasts do, so that man may remember he is favored among all creation. Man, however, insists on behaving like the beasts, degrading himself and forfeiting all his honors. This is completely beyond my understanding.

And now I can see the ultimate foolishness of man. He insists that he is an animal, yet tries to make himself more than an animal. He lives by the laws of the beasts, but wants to be greater than the beasts. What is this insanity?! If he wishes to be more than an animal, greater than the beasts, then why does he not follow the laws set for man? The standard has been handed to him, written as plainly as any could ask, and there is no other standard that can set him apart. I have given up trying to understand the reasoning of man. The animals are so much simpler...
